Gandhian living

Ben and I are trying to adjust to being lone wanderers now that James and Lavinia are safely home. Luckily we have found a beautiful haven of a farm in Gandhi's home state to rejuvenate before setting off on the long journey home.

Just over a fortnight ago, we returned to Ahmadabad and caught a bus to the nearest town to the farm, Kheda, where our host Purvi met us and brought us back to the farm. In total contrast to the Rajasthan farm, this is a small family farm, which inspired by Gandhi's philosophy has been planted with a massive variety of fruits and vegetables in the hope of providing for all the needs of the family sustainably. Without the commercial impetus, the pace of work is much less frantic, and we have plenty of time to talk and read and play music to the dogs! (Ollie proves particularly musical and enjoys singing along - see the photo!)

The farm is run by the daughter of the family, and the parents live in Ahmadabad still, although Purvi's mum is currently visiting and cooking us amazing Gujerati dishes - we will leave here very fat I think (as Purvi's cooking is also fantastic).

As usual with communal living, there are tensions, but generally we feel we are building up lots of health and energy to complete our overland journey home.

All being well (particularly the Iranian visa situation which is not great at the moment), we should arrive home by the end of March/ beginning of April. We are beginning to feel it's time to return to the wonderful communities we left behind, and reconnect with all our lovely friends who we are missing very much.

I will try to add photos now!
